Cawsand & Kingsand

Picture
I love that the historical fishing villages of Cawsand and Kingsand were once the haunt of smugglers.

In the 1700s and early 1800s the villages were the center of smuggling in the West country. A fleet of 50+ smuggling vessels landed thousands of casks of spirits here every year.

The Cawsand Ferry arrives. Check out the gangplank!
Left photo: The Dockyard Port of Plymouth serves the biggest naval base in western Europe and most of the traffic is either military or military support. It's common to see warships.

Right photo: You can travel from Plymouth to Spain and France via the Brittany Ferry.
