This section of the SWCP is a diverse stretch known for its "postcard-perfect" scenery, historical maritime significance, and a mix of rugged clifftops and gentler, bustling seaside resorts. The South Hams is often considered the most beautiful part of the path, featuring the Salcombe Estuary and the chic sailing town of Salcombe.
The "English Riviera" includes the lively resorts of Brixham, Paignton, and Torquay, offering world-class seafood and a milder, sunny climate. A unique feature of this stretch is that you will encounter six separate ferry crossings, and one river crossing that requires wading at low tide. |
