Sennen Cove to Pendeen Watch

5/22/2023

This is the last hike we need to do to complete a huge section of the South West Coast Path. It's a rockier area, with lots of old mining buildings from the days when copper and tin ruled.

Finishing the walk on the South West Coast Path from Sennen Cove to Pendeen Watch has special significance to us because of the creature on this sign. (Well, the creature's mate actually.)

We walked to this spot a few years back, coming from the other direction. On that hike it rained the entire time, I slipped and fell more than once, a herd of cattle blocked our way along the edge of a cliff, and then, when night started falling and we realized we had missed the last bus and were two miles or so (but in which direction?) from other people, we bailed and jumped over a wall toward the only road in the area.

It was raining too hard to get photos but picture this: not knowing exactly where we'd come out, we climbed the stone wall and crossed a huge cow pasture, hop-running between cows and animal-sized cow patties; climbed a wall into a second field; then a third and fourth. We see the bull in this last field. When the dark bulk started toward us I freaked and ran just like you're NOT supposed to do with bulls. Bob was behind me and he's smarter with animals than I am and I wished him godspeed as I clamored over the last wall. We did live to tell the tale and here we are now, right at the same field.

On one of our trips to England Bob and I discover the South West Coast Path. Life has never been the same. Now our goal is to walk the whole 630-mile hike, one path, pub, cider, and cream tea at a time. This blog follows our May 2023 trip.
