Lyme Regis to West Bay (12 miles)

This was one tough hike. So many ups and downs, vicious winds, rain threatening on and off all day. But the thing that kept us going was the Sunday carvery (roast beef and Yorkshire pudding) at the end. But first, we drink tea on the patio and watch the sun struggle to come out.

This is the view from our patio looking east, where we plan to walk today. The area had huge landfalls in the late 1990s, causing the path to be moved inland. The diversion goes up streets, through woods, and across a golf course.

We pack a hearty lunch.

The path meanders up the street.

Finally, we are back along the coast.

Windy and hard to walk!

When we stopped in Seatown we debated stopping there and taking a bus to West Bay (where the carvery is). But after a cider we decide to keep going.

I am ready to drop. But...the carvery keeps me going.

The wind is fierce!

When the cliff collapsed, it took the path fence with it!

It's about here when we look down at the coast and wonder why we're going up and down hills when we could just be strolling along the beach.

We find a path down and walk the rest of the way along the beach.

And, we miss the last bus home.

Oh my goodness! The morning video was particularly beautiful. The still pictures were just amazing - people live in that beauty everyday? And then the video of struggling to walk in the wind. First empathy. Then concern if the wind had been blowing towards the water! And then out right laughter. Oh! And that blasted sign, like all casual, “No carvery.” As if “sorry” is enough. A thoroughly delightful post!
